‘We here at Absolute want to let you in on a little secret, one we’ve been living with since we were young kids. It’s called ‘North Dakota.’

Hello. My name is Dan Murray. Along with my wife, Jen, we are the founders and proprietors of Absolute Gundogs and Absolute Guided pheasant and deer Hunts.

I grew up here on Apple Creek, just outside of Bismarck, North Dakota, and I’ve heard all the jokes. ‘That the only thing separating North Dakota from the Arctic is a barbed wire fence; Or that our state tree is a telephone pole, HA!  North Dakota  is a hunter’s paradise and we’re willing to share it with you.

Because on our side of that barbed-wire fence are wild pheasants galore, while in the shadow of that phone pole are Huns, Sharp-tails, and more ducks than any other state in the Union; plus legions of Canada geese and snows, and white tailed Deer.  ‘North Dakota Stands and Delivers!”

A typical Guided  ND Upland and waterfowl Hunting Day

A typical day of hunting includes a decoy spread over a cattail-slough, or in a harvested field in layout blinds in the morning, and an afternoon pheasant or Sharp tail grouse hunt.  We can also flip-flop the day with upland pheasant hunt in the morning and an afternoon duck hunt.  If your not feeling like crawling out of bed at 4am to set decoys in the dark, then don’t.  It’s your hunt and your experience, have it how you’d like.  Good food, good guides, good birds, and great memories when you book and Absolute Guided pheasant or duck Hunt in the great State of North Dakota.

North Dakota Pheasant The real deal. Fourth of July flushes against crisp Autumn skies. Photo by Denver Bryan

In addition to good bird numbers I like to think North Dakota offers quality over quantity. Unlike some other states I could mention but won’t (South Dakota) most of our local birds are wild: fast flyin’ and hard dyin’; not the pen-raised bumblebees of some high-volume lodge, released that morning dazed and confused. Nope. We specialize in the real deal at Absolute Guided bird Hunts. We’ll hunt across thousands of acres of private ground-managed for nature as well as for bushels of wheat and corn. You’ll be guided by myself and others like me who have been doing this since we were little boys-learning from our fathers and grandfathers. We know the ways of birds and dogs and cattail sloughs, natural drainages, and shelter belts.  The variety of terrain we hunt lends itself to all ages and ambition levels.  You won’t see lots of photos of piles of dead birds and blood-shed, but book an Absolute Guided North Dakota Pheasant or duck hunt and you’ll have plenty of photos and memories to take home.

OUR HUNTING GROUNDS

North Dakota Guided Pheasant Hunting Group nearly 5,000 acres of Private land we have all to ourselves. Photo by Denver Bryan

Most Absolute Guided ND Pheasant Hunts are on grounds relatively close to the Capital City, Bismarck ND.  Our hunting grounds are close to 5,000 acres. This is leased private land we have all to ourselves, located smack dab in the middle of a heck of a lot of pheasants and ducks.  However, we prefer to spend our time hunting ducks and geese a little further to the North in the Pothole region of the state where waterfowl concentrations are higher, thus improving your chances for that memorable experience for you to take home with you.  We have 3 guides who spend a lot of time scouting and patterning birds to ensure the best odds of making your Absolute Guided North Dakota Duck or Goose hunt a successful one.  If you’re up for a genuine hunt, with Fourth of July flushes against crisp Autumn skies, or cupped wings over a brilliant decoy spread, you’re in good company.  To Book Now, call Dan at 701-258-5001.

AS FOR THE DETAILS

We can accommodate groups of up to ten hunters. We’ll hunt as hard or as easy as suits the individuals-behind world-class Springers and Cockers and the occasional Labrador, another joy to behold if you’ve never experienced these fine dogs. Or bring your own four-legged huntin’ buddy. If he or she needs some work or correction we can peel off from the others and help with that too. Dogs ‘R’ Us, after all.

ACCOMMODATIONS

We don’t yet have the big extravagant lodge like some, but we have clean comfortable accommodations right in the heart of the city.  For groups of 4 or more hunters who book a 3-day combo hunt, we’ll let you live where we live for the duration of your hunt.  We have 2800 Square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a big screen television.  If you want to spend the evening or afternoon watching Fox News (CNN and like-channels are locked, but for a small fee we can unlock it!) a college football game, socializing, or just catching up on business left-behind, there’s plenty of space for all of it.  We call it, “The City Slicker Lodge”.    Fine restaurants, a liquor store, and shopping for warmer clothes is just minutes away.  Even if you didn’t forget something, once you visit Bismarck’s, Scheels Sports, you will find yourself taking more home than you came with.  No hunter or visitor can resist.

We’ll have a warm buffet style breakfast and drinks in the morning.  Count on a cold lunch and cold drinks when it’s hot, and a hot lunch and hot drinks when it’s cold.  Dinner is family style, and our family eats meat!    As for your daily bag, we’ll have them cleaned and packaged to take with, or send them on to your home address.  That’s it, pure and simple.

For groups of 1-3 hunters, we have a number of local hotels that offer nice accommodations and amenities where you can spend your down time.  Let us know what’s you like for amenities and we will book you into something that meets your standards, and ours.

We’ve got the blinds, the decoy rigs and all the rest. All you need is your gun, a current ND Hunting license and federal migratory bird stamp.  Contact Dan Murray at 701-258-5001 to book your next, best hunt ND Guided pheasant or duck hunt.

LET ME INTRODUCE OUR GUIDES

Image Photo by Don Banducci

Matt Bauer

Matt killed his first pheasant when he was 7; his first banded goose when he was 9. Today, the tradition of hunting to feed the family in Matt’s house continues.  More about Matt…

Tyler Moulder Photo by Don Banducci

Tyler Mowder

Tyler is a North Dakota native.  He was marching around with his dad when he was far too young to carry a gun, recalling the cattails towering over him. When he came of age his dad gifted him a single shot .410. He remembers holding up in a deer blind waiting in the silence-totally frozen, and loving it.  The first bird he killed was a sharp-tail grouse at nine years old. “Hunting is in my blood. It’s a big part of who I am.” More about Tyler…

‘For us, bird hunting is personal.’

Whatever your taste in bird hunting, and whatever your skill level, our goal is to give you a genuine North Dakota experience and the best hunt possible. For us, bird hunting is personal. It’s what we do and have always done. It’s more than a lifestyle, it’s Our Way of Life here in North Dakota, AND it’s our secret. Come hunt with us. We look forward to letting you in on both(that is a cheesy pitch!).

Dan and Jennifer Murray

We are pondering legislation changing the eagle on the North Dakota Flag to a more appropriate bird.
